Gothia Cup Diary: Day Three

‘Alla goda ting är tre’, a proverbial Svenska phrase which literally translates as ‘all good things are three’, has never rang truer at the Gothia Cup.

Having already qualified for the knock-out stages prior to our third and final group game, PLAYR Academy secured top spot with a 2-0 victory against Swedish team Viggbyholms IK FF. Luke Plange was on target again, while Tyrique Darnell Rasheed Springer then put the game beyond doubt with a composed finish. The result means we progress without conceding and having scored 18 goals, Sean Conlon’s side will head into their next match full of confidence.

Following a brisk walk from the artificial turf of Apelsinplan 2 where PLAYR Academy had played, we joined Swedish side UMEA IK FF for a training session before watching their unlucky 2-1 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen from Germany. Elsewhere, our technology was proving popular with several squads as we handed out SmartPods and SmartVests before syncing statistics and looking over the data – a top speed of eight metres per second is the new record to beat.

In keeping with the theme of three, for the remaining trio of days we’re in Gothenburg, we’re offering teams additional time slots to see for themselves what our technology can do. For the chance to get your hands on PLAYR simply email us or visit our booth in Heden to arrange a collection ahead of your game.
