PLAYR Teams Up With Adidas Tango League

With the likes of Stormzy and the F2 in attendance, PLAYR had the pleasure of supplying Adidas’ Tango League tournament in Shoreditch with the GPS football technology used by professionals.

Giving the best urban footballers in London the match data required to take their game to the next level throughout the three qualifying days and final, PLAYR was there for every step of the competition as fans from all over the world visited the exclusive event. Besides the nutmegs on show, a talking point was certainly the leaderboard we had stationed at the Adidas showpiece detailing how fast players ran.

Coming from three goals down to win 5-4 in an action-packed finale, Kings5s beat the Baiteze Squad to claim city bragging rights while the champions’ Lil’ Hass will be heading to Russia to watch the World Cup having picked up the Most Valuable Player award.

“It was intense and physical,” said  Kings5s’ Konrad Borzyskowski. “There were some very technically good teams there, but we really fought for it and kept composed. Adidas run the tournament globally and eventually they bring each individual winners to our city. Participating in it is very cool, but to win it is amazing. It’s an honour to be the best in London and the UK essentially.

“It’s great and certainly interesting to have PLAYR tracking our movements in a small-sided game,” he continued. “A lot of players won’t hit above five metres per second, and when compared to real life springing stats is really slow. So this shows it’s really about how you think on the ball. A lot of lads really enjoyed it seeing their stats and it got really competitive.

“I think a partnership will certainly develop between players and technology. Bringing sports science to amateur football gives players the chance to track metrics they would never ever normally get. You get the Smartcoach advice that tells you what to do too, whether it be relax, exercise, eat right or do more with a match or training session scheduled. It’s integral to those who want to want to go pro and reach those heights.”
